History of the College

Historical Events of College of Education

The proposal for the establishment of the College of Education was raised at the seventh meeting of the board of directors’ of Fu Jen Catholic University in October, 2001. The proposal received approval from the Ministry of Education in July 2010 and the College of Education was formally established on August 1, 2010.

The College of Education includes the following departments: the Department of Physical Education (established in 1969), since 2003 it has included three programs: the organization of which has included since 2003 three programs: Physical Education, Athletics, and Sports and Health Management; the Department of Library and Information Science (established in 1970 as the Department of Library Science and was renamed in 1992); the Library and Information Science Program (established in 1994); the Teacher Cultivation Center (established in 1996 as the Education Program Center and was renamed in 2004); the Graduate School of Education Leadership and Development (established in 2000); and the Master of Education for In-service Students from the Graduate School of Education Leadership and Development (established in 2002).

Establishment of the Department of Library Science

1992

The Department of Library Science is renamed as the Department of Library and  Information Science (DLIS)

1994

Establishment of the Library and Information Science (LIS) Program

1996

Establishment of the Education Program Center

1999

Establishment of the voluntary library service team by the DLIS.

2000

Establishment of the Graduate School of Education Leadership and Development

2002

Establishment of the Master’s Program in Education for In-service Students by the  Graduate School of Education Leadership and Development

Establishment of the On-the-job Master’s Program by the Department of Physical  Education

2003

The Department of Physical Education divided into three programs: program of  Physical Education; program of Athletics; and program of Sports and Health  Management

2004

The Education Program Center renamed as Teacher Cultivation Center

The Secondary School Education Program and Primary School Education Program of  the Teacher Cultivation Center were rated “excellent” by the Ministry of Education’s  Assessment of Teachers Cultivation Centers of Universities program for the school  year 2004

2008

The Secondary School Education Program and Primary School Education Program of  the Teacher Cultivation Center were rated “first class” by the Ministry of  Education’s Assessment of Teachers Cultivation Centers of Universities program for  the school year 2007.

2009

Temporary integration of the resources of the Physical Education Office.

2010

Establishment of the College of Education
